Rocky Mountain Conference on Dynamical Systems

I am at Park City for the rocky mountain conference on dynamical systems this week. This is the first time I attend a national math conference. I really like it so far. Some really famous PhD’s come for this conference. It is great opportunity for me to hear from leading people in field of dynamical systems. I still have a lot of things to learn to understand what they are talking about, but as least I can feel the spirit.

Well, math conference is not the only thing I excited about in Park City. I will go to hiking Wednesday afternoon and go to the outlet mall shopping. This week is fun, and I will have more fun for the rest of the week.

Earthquake in China

A 7.9-magnitude earthquake took place in Sichuan  province, China on Monday morning. Right now,  about 10,000 people are dead and thousands are hurt.  This quake is the largest in the Sichuan province for a over a generations.

I know there were a lot of negative news about China recently, but I still want to ask all of you to please pray for those, who are hurt or still missing because of the quake, that will be healed or rescued soon. Please also pray for those who lost their family that they will be comforted.

Conference weekend

This weekend was the conference weekend. I didn’t really like the Chinese translations, so I watched it in English. The translation was not bad, I just want to hear the original talk. Heavenly father really knows what I need, I can always learn something new or get some of my questions answered from conference talks every year.

On Sunday, after the conference, I invited some friends and my cousins over for dinner in my apartment. It was a lot of fun and the food was delicious (because I cooked most of the dishes, haha. I am so “humble” :P ).

For those who don’t share the same faith as I do, you might want to know what is this “conference”. In my church, we have a prophet, and 12 apostles; and twice a year they address the world though a internationally televised (also though the internet) meeting. That is what we called the conference.

PhD

I heard something funny this weekend. Everybody knows what PhD means. It means a doctoral degree. But if you got you PhD degree already or you are in the process getting your PhD degree, you might know another meaning of PhD. Are you ready? PhD = Permanent Head (brain) damage. Well at least I think it is funny.

Somthing I have to say about Tibet

Ok, I have heard enough about this BS. “Free Tibet”??? go learn some Chinese history before you say that. Here is a free History 101 lesson from me: Tibet has been a part of China for thousands of years!! Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, Republic of China, People’s Republic of China. Because of the weakness of Qing Dynasty, British took Tibet from China, and treated them like crap. So, what I say, we just took Tibet back. That’s all!

I guess everybody knows what just happened in Tibet. Well, from what I can tell, the American media are stupid and liars. They showed that Chinese police arresting people on TV, but they never showed what those people were doing before they were arrested. It was not a “peaceful” protesting, in the matter of fact, no peace at all. Burning cars, killing innocent people randomly, robbing and burning stores, if these things happened in LA, NYC, or anywhere in the America, what do you expect the cops to do? Sitting there and eating more donuts or getting up there and trying to keep the order? Think about it , and think hard. The media is trying to misleading American people. They are not showing the truth; they are showing what they want you to see.

Add Chinese characters into DB from php

When I was building my website, I had a hard time find a way to add Chinese characters into DB from php, and display it correctly on the web. But I figured it out in the end. It is really easy, just use the addslashes function. Here is an example:

$string; //this contains Chinese characters

$string2 = addslashes($string); \\now $string2 can be added into DB

//when you want to display in the page just do

echo $string2;
that’s it!
